Welcome to page 2 , some more info about me and what I do, and what I've done in the past:

seattlemodern.com is created and maintained by Tom Holst, (my cell phone is: (206) 841-0003), real estate associate broker, former Windermere agent, over 12 years experience, mid-century and newer MODERN architecture buff, builder. Some viewers of this site have told me they are unaware that I list and sell real estate, well, that is mainly what I do. Call me! I also work with and refer people to architects, designers, furniture/cabinet makers, remodelers, stores, photographers, and filmmakers who are into and understand cool "wow" modern design. People who can apply their interest in modernist design to all facets of finding, purchasing, financing, designing, remodeling, furnishing, accessorizing, decorating, adding art, etc. to existing and new buildings. Call me for information on buying, selling, remodeling, designing, and/or building. Whatever it takes to express your modern desires, call me and start to create YOUR contribution to the world of modernism, be it minimalist-understated-cool to radical-fun-pop-groovy, a noteworthy quality lasting expression of art and architecture you can own, restore, contribute to, and share with the world. Once again, my cell phone number is: (206) 841-0003.

Call me! I help buyers and sellers to find, buy and/or sell homes. I also created this site which is devoted to my main passion, which is hunting down, uncovering,  making a record of, and hopefully helping to restore, conserve, acknowledge, and sometimes save hidden, often under-appreciated, MID-CENTURY MODERN and newer architecturally cool contemporary "wow" design properties in and around the greater Seattle area, particularly those currently for sale. Especially properties by known and/or renowned, famous, semi-famous, obscure, or relatively unknown local architects of that time period, some still practicing today. I, Tom Holst, personally do the searching, updating, cataloging, and archiving of a HUGE quantity of properties in this site. Some understanding of "modernism" and what it means to me might be digested quickly by seeing the old "Fountainhead" movie starring Gary Cooper, (or Ayn Rand's books, of course, if you have the time) for some basis for this website's reason for being and to provide you with some cool architectural/philosophical concepts about how I define the word "modern", why it is a timeless concept that is and will remain very relevant well into the future. Let the future begin!

I helped put on the following event that was very well attended, the movie was a little dated, ending in the "post" modernist era (1986) but prior to that I found it very interesting:

Here's a house I helped sell in Phinney Ridge, a huge sunny private panoramic 50's modern view home built by the builder for himself. The current owner has meticulously constructed media rooms and gorgeously detailed acoustic/sound-proofed recording/music studio spaces in its view daylight lower level. The house is 2 stories of brick, located way up high above a great quiet street, the totally private back yard is an enchanting bamboo garden off the master bedroom with outdoor concrete shower, deck/hot tub with cool retractable roof over it, the kitchen is high tech stainless steel European appliances and custom woodwork, big fireplace, hardwoods, and a motivated seller. It should be reasonably priced, call me to find out exactly when it will be on the market.

(all sketches are by Tom Holst, some dating 1999)

A  huge archive of past cool designed homes also remain on this site as a reference resource, on the many older pages (the "history and archives" button). This site went online on March 25th, 1999, and has been in continuous existence since then. This is NOT just an old tired "brochure" for another real estate agent, but rather a constantly updated homage to the joys of modernism, 1930's-40's-50's-60's-70's, (80's?) and newer cool cutting-edge different architecture around town. I won't bore you with the brass coach light pseudo-provincial "McMansions" out there, or blah uninspired home designs, but rather houses beyond mere "shelter", or done without any real dreaming about design. I do the work for you of weekly scouring the market for nearly ALL current for-sale listings (not limited to any one particular real estate office). and paring thousands down to only the best handful, usually 8 to 12 of the best unusual interesting individualistic design, photos presented with useful single paragraph descriptions, the quickest, most precisely condensed, easiest to read, digest and understand displays of listings in the entire real estate world, if I do say so myself.  My site is constantly updated, vital, fresh, and alive to good design, I hope! Call me with any comments, Thanks.

DOWN WITH BOREDOM!!!  I've been contacted by, mentioned, written up in, and done location scouting work for cutting edge magazines like "Wallpaper". Also The Seattle Times wrote about me and this website in the Friday April 13, 2002 edition, also there has been a unsolicited page written up on exclusively on me in House&Garden magazine. I've done location scouting for an upcoming not yet released Hollywood movie, set in the future, and for the Getty images library, several photographers, local modern furniture store referrals, and for cable TV's HGTV channel.  I've sold homes to numerous registered architects, industrial and other designers. Dozens of referrals have testified as to my keen eye at spotting the most unusual different, interesting, odd and/or NON-traditional properties out there. I've been credited too many times to mention about my skills at finding good deals that make sense economically, and in my personable negotiating skills in bringing parties into agreement, and closing transactions.

It's best to CALL me on the phone to get my attention and a sure response, rather than email, although I do appreciate and try to read all email comments, even if I can't respond to all of them. So CALL me rather than email me, regarding any particular listing, or advertisement you see somewhere, or for your input, or tips on things you see around town, or just to chit-chat about this site, improvements, general design questions, building plans, decor, events, magazines, furniture, etc. This site only pays for itself by getting buyers and sellers to CALL me to find homes AND write up offers to purchase and/or sell houses! So please CALL ME first and let ME write up your offers for houses, it doesn't usually cost Buyers a penny, so why not use my expertise? Help keep this site happening. (Ew, now I sound like PBS pledge week, oh well),

MY DIRECT PHONE NUMBER IS: (206) 542-3789, that spells: (206) LIBERTY, and my mobile phone is: (206) 841-0003, call anytime, day or evening.

Just  picking out the top approximately eight to twelve or so cool-design new listings put on the market for sale each week involves an exhaustive scouring of some usually 1,500 or more new listings around town. I feature mostly houses, 99% in the greater Seattle area, especially those currently FOR SALE right now (updated and added to my list, usually every week, by Thursday). I want you to say "wow" when you see these, and call me to talk about it.

Enjoy!
